I need a Z-Fold format for my Business Central Bank Account

Importing the Default Z-Fold Check Layout into Business Central

Overview

Z-Fold check stock is a common pre-printed check format used with Mekorma check printing in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

  • The Z-Fold layout is one of the standard Mekorma Super Check report layouts.

  • It does not require creating a custom, hand-designed layout.

  • This article explains how to:

    • Locate the default Z-Fold layout.

    • Add it into Business Central.

    • Assign it to a bank account.

    • Test the layout to make sure checks print correctly on Z-Fold stock.

Before You Start

  • You need permission to access the Report Layouts page in Business Central.

  • Confirm with your check stock vendor that your pre-printed stock is Z-Fold format.

    • The check stock format affects margins and stub placement.

  • Have the bank account you want to print checks from ready to update.

Step 1: Open Report Layouts

  1. In Business Central, use the search (Tell Me) and go to Report Layouts.

  2. In the search bar within the Report Layouts page, type Mekorma to filter the list down to Mekorma-related check layouts.

Note: If no Mekorma layouts appear:

  • The Mekorma Super Check extension may not be installed.

  • Check with your partner or administrator before continuing.

Step 2: Add the Default Z-Fold Layout

Available to download here: MEKSuperCheck_Zfold_fixed.rdl

If the Z-Fold layout is not already listed, add it as a new report layout entry:

  1. On the Report Layouts page, choose New.

  2. In the Report ID field, enter 70819700.

    • This is the Mekorma Super Check report ID.

  3. In the Layout Name field, enter a clear, descriptive name.

    • Example: Mekorma Z-Fold Default

  4. Set Type/Format to RDLC.

    • This matches the check report file type.

  5. Set Availability to All Companies.

    • This allows the layout to be selected from any company or bank account.

  6. Save the record.

    • Business Central will use its built-in default Z-Fold layout for this entry.

    • No file upload is required because this is the standard layout, not a custom one.

Step 3: Assign the Layout to a Bank Account

  1. Go to Bank Accounts and open the relevant bank account card.

  2. Locate the Bank Check Report Layout field.

  3. Select the Z-Fold layout you just added, or select the existing default Z-Fold entry.

  4. Save the bank account card.

Step 4: Test the Layout

  1. Post or select a test check batch for the bank account you updated.

  2. Print or preview the check and confirm the layout aligns correctly with the Z-Fold stock.

  • Check number

  • Signature line

  • Stub placement

  1. If the alignment is slightly off, adjust the printer settings rather than the layout.

  • Margin issues are usually related to printer or paper settings.

Default Layout vs. Custom Layout

The steps above cover the default, out-of-the-box Z-Fold layout.

If a client needs additional formatting, such as:

  • Custom branding

  • Bank-specific formatting

  • Different placement or positioning

Then the base layout must be customized.

The custom layout process includes:

  • Exporting the base layout.

  • Editing the .rdl file in Microsoft Report Builder.

  • Importing it back into Business Central as a custom layout.

  • Using Replace Layout or creating a new layout entry and uploading the edited file.

See the related article "Importing a Custom Check Report Layout" for that process.

Troubleshooting

  • Layout doesn't appear in the dropdown on the bank account card

    • Confirm Availability is set to All Companies, or that it includes the current company, on the Report Layouts entry.

  • Print is misaligned on Z-Fold stock

    • Verify that the correct layout is assigned to the bank account.

    • Make sure the selected layout is Z-Fold, not Top-Fold or Voucher.

  • Report ID not found

    • Double-check that 70819700 was entered exactly.

    • Make sure there are no extra spaces.
